THE INAUGURAL WHISKEY REBELLION AT DETROIT'S HISTORIC CADIEUX CAFE

DUENDE! played our 4th show (and last with the original line up of Ryan Milliagn on Bass, Lance Sanders on Rhythm Guitar and Jorge Cortez on Lead Guitar) at the Cadiuex Cafe on January 27th 2007 with The Oscillating Fan Club and Battling Siki. Laura had caught the eye of co-owner Paul Devos AKA Eastside Elvis around town with her I LOVE NERDS T-Shirt and booked her on that basis once he found out she had gotten a band together. It's one of Detroit's only bars (besides PJ's Lager House) that has it's Old World vibe intact with traditional Belgium fare from mussels to trappist ales and supposedly the only feather bowling in the States.

From that very first performance it seemed very much like our kind of place though other co-owner Ron Devos would always ask after bringing out the likes of Red China (which featured future bassist Jason Worden) and The Clapp (which was one of the projects the remaining members of Siddhartha gigged out as when Marlon Hauser left for California) when I called to book a show, "You're not bringing out any of that weird shit right?". We did "weird well" as Eddie (then with Battling Siki while The Sights were on hiatus) Baranek put it once so I would always say "no, no" and he wouldn't ever know the difference!

This set was recorded September 24th 2011 by a man that we call Mink. The photographs were taken from a previous show earlier in the year by Chris Cunnington. The songs run the gamut from our debut record all the way through our modern material composed with Scott Sanford on six string guitar as well as electric bass.

Sincerely we consider this one of our favorite 'houses' to play. ANYWHERE. PERIOD. For a little more insight to the venue check out what Anthony Bourdain had to say about his visit

In Honor of Lakeside Lounge and The Eternal East Village Cool

The Band started going through their archive of live shows upon hearing that the doors of Lakeside Lounge will be closing permanently on April 30, 2012 to "be replaced by a gentrifier whiskey joint, no doubt with $19 artisanal cocktails and hedge fund nebbishes trying to pick up on sorostitutes when their boyfriends are puking in the bathroom – or out of it." -NY Music Daily 4/13/12. Not that we haven't seen people there Cryin' Ruth in it's present state!

This set from January 31st 2009 was recorded (as were the pics taken) by original DUENDE! bassist Ryan Milligan who moved to New York in '07 in his pursuit of Life, Liberty and Happiness. The Band had just finished their first day (of three) underground with Matt Verta-Ray in his NY HED Studios recording what would become REMNANT OF A REMNANT. Dustin Leslie plays keys on the album and on this recording. We are very saddened by all of this but feel assured the Lakeside Lounge did what it set out to do Culturally and for that we embrace our time on that stage and bellied up to the bar. Good job guys. We hope you enjoy the show.

For a more detailed perspective on Lakeside Lounge, it's Myth and it's Philosophy check out this story that ran in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/23/nyregion/gritty-musical-mainstay-will-close-in-the-east-village.html?_r=1
